Wine Lovers Love Wonderful Vineyards and Tastings

Flowers, two wine goblets, with Youngberg Hill wine bottle with open window overlooking winery

Is your bed and breakfast located in wine country?  If so, do you invite wine lovers to your bed and breakfast for private wine tastings and tours of vineyards? Perhaps offer a Wine Lovers Package and assist your guests in arranging their wine-tasting itinerary depending on the date and the time of year they visit.

Recommend some wine-related activities (such as picnics) that you think your guests will love. Seasons play a role in the events that are offered, but there may be something ‘wine-related’ that is always happening nearby your inn.  Your guests could experience an exceptional wine tasting at some of your region’s premium, award winning wineries.

Whether your guest is a wine aficionado or just wants to try a new experience, he or she will discover the complexities of the vineyard, the artistry that takes place in the cellar, as well as the joys of tasting the result: elegant wines for every palate!

If guests are leaving your bed and breakfast for their wine tasting, consider providing them with a tour guide (and/or chauffeur) to help them experience some of the premium wines your local area has to offer.

Now, more than ever, wineries are eager for guests to stop by. Perhaps you could coordinate hosting an event with at least one local vineyard. If possible, give your guests the option of a half or whole day trip to arranging a multi-day tour.

Alternatively, you can host your own wine tastings right from your inn. This is very convenient for your overnight guests (yet you have the option of adding even more wine tasters to your gathering).

Wine is commonly paired with cheese, fruit, and chocolate so you have several options for your menu. Your tasting could provide a full meal or just one course (like appetizers or desserts).

It is perfectly acceptable to invite a local wine aficionado (or sommelier) to educate your guests. Your expert may offer this as a complimentary service to you if he or she may bring bottles for your guests to purchase.  Whether your guests are going on a tour (or staying “inn”) you can give your wine lovers the best wine tasting experience possible!

Guests savor delicious home-baked cookies each evening, along with turndown service. They are within walking distance to Lamoine Beach and Lamoine State Park.

Guests do not have to love chocolate to want to visit these three inns: Chocolate Turtle Bed and Breakfast, Chocolate Diamond Bed and Breakfast, and Chocolate Chip Bed and Breakfast.  However, if you are a chocolate lover, consider it a bonus!

Healthy Breakfasts: Berries

healthy breakfasts berries
Healthy breakfasts: berries may be small in size, but blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, cranberries, raspberries, and strawberries are big on taste as well as rich in three areas: antioxidants, fiber, and folate. Eating berries can help improve your health, wellness, and weight. Better yet, berries can be enjoyed all year long.

All fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants, but nutrient-rich berries are some of the absolute best choices. There are powerful antioxidants found in berries, including Vitamin C, may help:

  • Prevent and manage arthritis
  • Slow age-related memory-loss
  • Decrease inflammation in joints of people with rheumatoid arthritis
  • Reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration
  • Make skin more radiant
  • Make hair more healthy

Berries also contain fiber and folate. Fiber aids in weight loss and helps lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Folate may protect against cardiovascular disease and age-related memory loss, and since folate contributes to the production of serotonin, it may also help avoid depression and improve one’s mood.

In addition to antioxidants, fiber, and folate, berries are “juicy foods,” which means they contain mostly water. Juicy foods are great for losing weight because they fill people up quickly, since their high water content bumps up the volume while driving down the calories.

Remember, if fresh berries cannot be found, frozen (unsweetened) berries are a great substitute during the off-season months — and just as nutritious! Delicious serving ideas include:

  • Adding berries to a bowl of warm oatmeal during breakfast.
  • Putting berries on top of pancake batter as it cooks for berry delicious pancakes.
  • Drizzling chocolate to cover strawberries as a romantic snack for couples.
  • Stirring fresh raspberries into Greek yogurt to amplify its deliciousness.
  • Combining frozen berries with bananas and low-fat milk to make an afternoon smoothie for guests.

Offering berries to your guests is a healthy and delicious way to fuel their bodies. Guests love the taste of berries and innkeepers love their smiles and return visits!   Be sure to put pictures of your breakfasts on social media! People can “like” your posts on Facebook, “re-tweet” your tweets on Twitter, and pin your pictures on Pinterest!

Encouraging Your Guests To Return

Encouraging guests to return is good for business. Did you know that your best future business comes from past customers?  This works in two ways: your past customers can return for another visit or they can give a referral about your bed and breakfast to someone they know who decides to stay.

By asking guests the reason for their visit, you can gain valuable information. Maybe they are coming to your bed and breakfast for an annual event in your community.  Knowing that, you can send a reminder of your inn at the right time next year.

It is a good idea to track guests’ birthdays and anniversaries. This information makes it easy for you to send a post card in plenty of time for them to book a room to celebrate their occasion.

This also gives you ideas on what to promote for services.  You could offer a birthday package or anniversary package. Packages can include things such as flower arrangements, chocolate, in-room massages, and tickets to an event. There is no limit to your creativity!

So by knowing the reason for their visit, you can promote your bed and breakfast to them at the right times of the year.  This makes them feel special that you remembered and it leads to more business for you!
