Did You See “Falling Inn Love” The Movie?

Netflix Movie "Falling Inn Love"

At the time of this writing, there is a new movie called, “Falling Inn Love” that is streaming on Netflix. It is an American romantic comedy film directed by Roger Kumble. From a screenplay by Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy that was released on August 29, 2019. The movie stars Christina Milian and Adam Demos.

Meet Gabby

A busy professional woman named Gabby Diaz, from San Francisco, wins a bed and breakfast in an essay contest. Since she lost her job and left her boyfriend, her hopes lift after the news of earning this prize. However, the inn is located all the way over in New Zealand.

After three bus rides, she sets her suitcase down on a steep gravel road and it crashes into the truck of a guy willing to give her a ride. She declines his help. When she finally gets there, it is nothing like the picture shown in the contest. As she is touring this place (in much need of repair) she hears a strange noise coming from inside a closet. When she opens the closet, she is shocked to see a goat she later learns is named Gilbert.

Meet Jake

Gabby is an independent woman and is reluctant to receive help fixing up her place. However, being low on funds, she makes an agreement with an attractive contractor named Jake Taylor (who happens to be the same person that offered her a ride earlier).  Sadly, Jake’s girlfriend died a few years ago so he is also single. They keep running into each other in town. He teases that she is following him.

Their Renovating Challenges

Together they make an agreement to restore the inn and split the profits. Of course, it would not be a very good story, if the characters did not have even more challenges. Her challenges include a local innkeeper wanting to buy her inn, having differences of opinion with Jake about the restoration of the inn, and her former boyfriend surprising her with a visit and bringing along another prospective buyer.

Along the way, as she gets to know more about Jake, she also grows closer to the helpful people in the town. Not being from New Zealand, she hears several interesting phrases and learns she is driving on the wrong side of the road! I highly recommend this movie if you like romantic, feel-good movies. The “Falling Inn Love” movie is rated PG and is 98 minutes.

The Yellow House in Waynesville, NC

Bedroom at The Yellow House in Waynesville, North Carolina

As soon as we met Owners and Innkeepers Ken and Kelli Todtenhagen, we felt very welcome at The Yellow House in Waynesville, North Carolina. We were in town to tour Western Carolina University in nearby Cullowhee.

We stayed in the Rockwell Suite (pictured above), named in honor of the famous 20th-century American author and prolific artist Norman Rockwell, who produced more than 4,000 works in his lifetime.  Rockwell is most famous for the color illustrations of everyday life he created for the Saturday Evening Post for nearly five decades.

In the suite, some of Mr. Rockwell’s pictures are on the walls and there are art supplies (including sketch pads and adult coloring books) available for guests who like to draw.  Ken and Kelli are amazed at some of their talented guests who have left pictures for them.

There are many reasons why guests love to visit The Yellow House, including:

  • Luxurious guest rooms and suites in their Main House and Pond House
  • All ten guest areas include their own gas fireplaces
  • Two dog-friendly rooms in the Pond House
  • Guest amenities including complimentary wine & hors d’oeuvres, 24-hour access to drinks & snacks, comfy robes, and private baths (some with jetted tubs)
  • Gorgeous mountain views

  • “Gone Fishing”, “Girls Getaway”, and “Honeymoon/Anniversary Picnic” packages
  • Extras including balloons, chocolate, picnic lunches, wine & cheese tray, flowers
  • Delicious fresh complimentary gourmet breakfasts each morning

There are many special occasions guests celebrate at The Yellow House, including:

  • Memorable anniversaries

Guests of The Yellow House enjoy activities and adventures, like:

Ken and Kelli have done some major renovating to the house (built in the late 1800s) to restore its grand historic appeal.  They have added antique furniture and some of their delightful decor changes throughout the year to reflect the seasons and holidays.  We highly recommend a visit to The Yellow House and we look forward to many return visits.

What Innkeepers Like Most

what innkeepers like most

I wanted to see if there were some common responses to the question I asked bed and breakfast innkeepers in an online Linked In group. The question was, “What do you like most about being an innkeeper?” Answers to what innkeepers like most included:

  • Welcoming guests from all over the world
  • Meeting people from all walks of life
  • Showing hospitality by making others feel at home
  • Conversations that flow naturally with guests
  • Feeding our guests well
  • Being my own boss
  • Satisfaction from making others happy
  • Having guests return again and again and forming long-term bonds with them

So what do YOU like best about being owning a bed and breakfast?  I can think of several responses, to what innkeepers like most, depending upon what activities you like to do at your B&B:

  • Greeting and speaking with guests
  • Cooking delicious breakfasts, desserts, and more
  • Hosting events such as weddings and group meetings
  • Tending to our beautiful garden
  • Renovating and restoring our home
  • Decorating the rooms
  • Designing several different packages for guests to choose from
  • Updating guests with a regular newsletter or blog
  • Using social media to promote our bed and breakfast

Everyday keep in mind what you love about being an innkeeper. Keep track of memorable moments with guests. Stay in touch with former guests and reach out to potential new guests. Join an innkeeping association for support from fellow innkeepers.  Now it is easier than ever to keep in contact with others in our connected world.
